August 30, 2010

It's been another busy week for the Sagers. Trying to make the most of our last bit of summer here before school begins.
Last Saturday Grants parents came over for a visit in the morning. The kids have really been enjoying having them around. In the afternoon, I headed out to Okotoks to do a birthday shoot. A woman hired me to be the photographer at her daughters 1st b-day party. She did a Fabulous job. There was so much detail that went into the party. I was really impressed. This is one of the pics I took at the party of the birthday girls outfit. I had lots of fun. I love that people let me into their special moments and trust me to capture them. Sunday we had Grants parents and the Sherlocks over for a final dinner before his parents had to leave. I took a picture of each child alone with Grandpa and Nanny. I somehow cannot find them, and am so sad about this. I am really hoping that they are just on a memory card that I haven't found yet, and that they weren't deleted :(
They left Monday early in the morning to head back to Ontario. I met with another bride later on in the day to book her wedding shoot (Yay!) and Kaitlyn and McKenna went over to Josh and Alex's house to babysit for them while they went on a date for Josh's b-day. Tuesday was our trip to the dentist for all of the kids except for Tyson (Alex offered to babysit him).  They all did extremely well though came out with a few cavities to fix. Afterwards McKenna had her friend Isabella over for a sleepover. Wednesday we celebrated Damians b-day early because he wanted to take his best friend (and cousin) Drayton to Calaway Park. This was a better time than during school.
Grant took him and Drayton. They played games there and won a few souveniers. Grant looked pretty ill coming home. Too many spinning rides. Presley came over to play with Maiya for the day. We had pizza for dinner and Damian chose birthday donuts to celebrate. We ended up keeping Isabella over for another night and Presley and Drayton also slept over. I went to guitar lessons and then headed over to my friend, Valene's house for a bit. Her and a few of the girls were making jalapeno jelly. I don't like hot stuff though, so I decided to just come and visit for a bit until Grant had to go off to the movies with his friends. They went to see "The Other Guys".  I made Valene's daughter Claire this art carrier. I had seen this cute wooden holder on the swap n' buy and thought it had potential to be a fun unique gift. It was fun to make. (This is a before and after collage) I added in some colouring books, crayons, a storybook and a sticker book.
Thursday morning we headed dow to Stirling. My niece Meaghan was having her baptism so we decided to stay for a few days to kick off the end of summer. The kids were so excited to be there. We ate lunch and then headed straight for the pool. They just love that outdoor pool, and so do I.
Maiya finally let Sarah convince her to go on the waterslide with her and before long, that is all that she wanted to do..
We came back home for dinner and the kids played for a bit, but then desperately wanted to go back to the pool. So we spent almost the entire afternoon and part of the evening swimming.
I think they were all pretty tired come bedtime. It was +35 that day, so the girls were going to be sleeping in the tent. It lasted for a little bit, and then it started to sprinkle rain, and I guess they didn't want to "rough it" anymore, haha!
Garth went out to a movie with a friend and Sarah and I just chatted and flicked channels.
Friday morning Sarah needed to finish up Meaghans baptism dress that she was sewing for her. After that was done, we all headed down to Cardston. We took the kids to the temple to walk around the temple grounds.
I stopped in the distribution centre while we were there and got Meaghan a scripture case for her baptism gift. After that we headed over to a place called "Wooly's Beach" to have a picnic and let the kids play. It was beautiful there.
We had our picnic on one side of the hill because the other side of the hill where the beach was, was so windy.
The other side of the hill was fairly windy, but the kids were way too excited about the beach to let that deter them.
This water was really cold, but most of them braved it. Kaitlyn and Zoe were the bravest (craziest) and got right in, head and all, first.
The wind made some great waves though, and the sand was that perfect soft sand.
We stayed there for a few hours.

Afterwards we headed over to the dam, and then went back to Stirling. As soon as we got back, guess what the kids wanted to do??....yep, swimming. We ate dinner first and then all of us headed over to the pool and stayed until bedtime.
Saturday morning we woke up and spent the morning getting ready for Meaghans baptism. After lunch we went into Lethbridge for her baptism.
I gave a talk on Baptism. Here is the dress that Sarah made for Meaghan.. she's so talented.

After Meaghans baptism we started our journey back home. We stopped at a McDonalds in Lethbridge to tide the kids over for the trip. We macde another stop in Granum for gas, and stopped by to see if my Grandma was home so we could say hi. She wasn't there, so the kids played at the park near her house for a little bit. We made another stop in South Calgary to pop in on my parents for a bit. Then it was home for us. Everyone unpacked, had a quick snack and went to bed. They were all happy to see Grant. Sunday we went to church and then had a newer family in the ward over for dinner. Before they arrived, we had a surprise guest. A gopher crashed the party, haha! He snuck in while our door was open to air out the house.
That brings me to today! I am heading out to the mall with Kaitlyn for a few last minute items before school. I also have a shoot scheduled for tonight, but the forecast is thunder showers, so we shall see!!

August 20, 2010

August is just whizzing by it seems, and unfortunately the weather has not been so great. It's been very fall like. We have kept busy having fun and enjoying it anyways, and any moment it feels sort of like summer we try to do as much stuff outdoors as possible!! Sunday afternoon we had our friends ,the Kyles, over for dinner as well as the Sherlocks (minus Josh who was in Ontario for the week). It was lots of fun visiting. Monday we had Maiya's friend Claire over to play and Catcher got to go to his friend Lucas' house. The rest of the kids were all over the neighbourhood hanging out with friends.
In the evening, Nanny and Grandpa (Grants parents) came into Airdrie. They are visiting from Ontario. The kids got to visit with them for a little while before bed. It was nice to see them again. They are sleeping at Alex's house for the week. Tuesday we woke up and got ready to go to Kananaskis with the Sherlocks and Nanny and Grandpa. It was such a beautiful spot, I wish we could have had more time there.
It was a cool day and looked very promising for rain, but ended up being really nice in Kananaskis and even got a little hot. The kids loved it there.  Later on in the evening after dinner we headed over to Alex's house to have a fire and visit. I love fires (well controlled ones at least)

Wednesday morning we went over to the park where they had stuff going on for kids. It was mostly for younger kids, so the older ones just took off to the park and stuff. They had a ton of different stations with big puzzles, playdough, water stations, moon sand station, bubbles, painting, blocks, lego etc. The Siakaluks were there too and so it was fun for the kids to have friends there, and of course me too!

McKenna went to her friend, Courtneys, house from the park to spend the day. I took the rest of the kids home for lunch and then we headed over to the pool to go swimming for the afternoon. It was such a nice day, that when we got back home, the sprinkler went on and there was more water fun to be had along with the neighbourhood kids. They also made our slide into a waterslide by putting the sprinkler at the top of the slide.

Later in the evening I went to guitar lessons and then went over to hang out with the girls (Alex and her Mom) and Josh and  Grants Dad came over her to have a movie night with the guys.
Thursday during the day was fairly uneventful. We had a slow, lazy start to the day. Got Damian signed up for gymnastics again. He is now in level 5.  Later in the afternoon the kids played outside, went for walks to Macs etc. I got caught up on a bunch of photography stuff, and even practiced my guitar. Garth and Sarah and their kids arrived in Airdrie to come visit Garths parents before they leave. Their girls came over to our house to sleepover and also watched the kids while Grant and I went over to visit with the adults in the family. Later as I was getting ready for bed, I went to check on the girls and to turn off the lights. This is how I found my niece, Natasha, sleeping:
in the swinging IKEA chair. I woke her up to see if she wanted to move, but she really wanted to stay there to sleep. I hope she didn't ache too much in the morning..and then there was McKenna..she ended up sleeping on top of an old trunk (we keep costumes in) with a car mat, body pillow, beanbag chair and a blanket. I have no idea how these girls sleep like this, haha! I moved her though because I didn't want her falling off in the night.
Today we went over to Alex's house for Gabrielles b-day party. Here is a picture of her eating her Dora cake in the dress she picked out for her party dress..

Grant had to leave for work and Garth and their family had to head home, so we got a quick picture of all of the grandkids with Nanny and Grandpa. Not a perfect picture, but good enough. Everyone was in it, and that's what was important!
It's been fun visiting with family!!

Aug13, 2010

Well, August has been a very blah month thus far! It has been cool, rainy...very fall like. As much fun as we've been having, I am very sad that our summer never REALLY showed up. It's been decent weather, but not many days that could really be considered summer weather. I have almost given up on summer (and am so sad to see a full aisle of christmas decor in the dollarama, BOOOO!!!!). Not because I don't love christmas, but August??? really?? is that absolutely necessary?!

So there's been a lot going on around here, but more on the side of organizing the house, purging, photoshoots, editing, preparing stuff for school, making dentist appointments, working out lessons for the fall etc. Life stuff, with bits of summer fun in between it all. Damian was able to go camping with his Uncle Jesse and Drayton. He loves going camping! The kids have been going to the rec centre a lot to use up our pass while we still have it, more sleepovers (isn't summer just one big sleepover?) Grant and I got to go on a date.

We went out to dinner at Chilis (Grant won a $50 gift card, so it was free) and then we went out to the new AMX theatres and watched "Inception". Loved it! Really good!
Yesterday we headed out to my Mom and Dads house to visit and sleepover. It was pouring rain. When we got there, Shawna cut Maiyas hair (just a trim for school) and gave Tyson a cut (his hair was getting too long) My Mom and Dad bought them all new colouring and activity books to give them something to do. Grandma (my Mom) coloured with them. They bought pizza for dinner along with our families very favourite drink (chocolate milk...it's my weakness)

The rain stopped for a bit, and so we took the kids to the park for a bit.

They LOVE this twirly thing. It's the best thing at the park.

Catcher didn't want to leave. Grandma's oreo cookies were a good bribe though.

Poor Tyson. I forgot to bring a sweater for him, and Grandma thought it was too cold (Alberta weather sucks) for him, so she put an adult vest on him to keep him warmer. He looked so funny!!

A cute picture I took of Maiya at the park. (the head to one side thing seems to be a trademark for her and McKenna, haha)
The kids had a movie night with a huge bowl of popcorn. They watched "Beverly Hills Chihuaua".
My Mom, Shawna, Seth and I stayed up playing a card game called "Wacky Six". It was fun! After everyone went to bed, McKenna (who was still awake) and I put out a little surprise for the Grandparents to see in the morning.

We gave them an updated group photo of the Grandkids in a frame, and each child wrote in a card with their photo on it about what they like best about their Grandma and Grandpa. I just added the balloons to make it look more fun! Balloons make everything look more fun, don't they?!

Chelsea came over with her kids for a bit. We went out together for a little bit to check out Pier 1 and Chelsea treated everyone to donuts.
Grandma and Grandpa gave my kids some fun toys. The boys got pirate stuff, Kaitlyn got stationary and pens (her fave), McKenna got a puzzle and necklace kit and Maiya got a cell phone and purse. They were all happy with their gifts.

We had fun visiting!
